CES TECH BITES HOT FROM VEGAS • CES 2025 is under way as we go to press: here are some key tech tales emerging from the Vegas show floors…

Don't miss the Australian Hi-Fi Show in Sydney this April!

Roll up! Roll up! • The latest of BenQ's circular rolling projectors brings battery power, a brighter lumen count and new Netflix to its Google TV interface and built-in sound: a generally impressive result for a compact and versatile projector.

A moveable feast • The German camera-maker's second upgrade of a Hisense-derived projector proves technically brilliant at delivering big-screen images wherever you choose to put it.

Wot, no knobs? • So AV surround receivers are huge high boxes with knobs and displays and rear panels that are loaded with endless inputs and speaker outputs, right? This Canadian five-channel streaming receiver begs to differ.

Enduring edge • Yamaha's Aventage range of AV receivers was most recently refreshed in 2021. That doesn't make them in the least bit uncompetitive or outdated today, especially as they've since dropped slightly in price.

Passive aggressive • It's bar-shaped, but not your average soundbar — instead this is a passive LCR speaker set designed by Krix to take its place within a full surround system, where it will kick some sonic arse.

Steal a March • Simple looking black boxes they may be, but March Audio's P801 power amps can deliver 1400W each into 2 ohms — which makes them a steal at the price.

Poetry in motion • “The man that hath no music in himself, nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils…”

What happens on Tour… • JBL Tour Pro 3 wireless earbuds are fully loaded, from hybrid drivers to spatial audio to a smart charging case which has a screen, control buttons, and built-in Auracast. But with all this on offer, how's the sound?

CEDIA SMART HOME AWARDS 2024

CEDIA AWARDS 2024 • CEDIA proved this year that they can organise a Ceremony in a brewery, as the great and good of our region's custom installation industry gathered at the Earp Distilling Co. in Newcastle.
