Regina Cutter is the mother of two grown children and the victim of her husband's midlife crisis.

Out of a marriage, an income, and a place to live, Regina has relocated to Boston's Back Bay, where her psychic aunt has bequeathed her a townhouse—and some paranormal ability.

Adjusting to her new middle-class life and taking on a new job as a police psychic, Reggie is called upon to help prove the innocence of a falsely imprisoned criminal and to end the possible haunting of a recently renovated townhouse. It's quite a long way from bemoaning a broken marriage, and newly minted psychic Regina Cutter is just getting started.

The remarkable Anna Fields narrates this Regina Cutter mystery. Fields creates completely individual personalities through her wide range of voices, sounding believably male or female, lowbrow or to the manor born, terrified or cocksure, as the story demands. In NOW YOU SEE HER, Reggie, 40-something, divorced, and a budding "touch psychic," is asked to assist in a possible house haunting and to investigate a cold case in which the wrong man may have gone to prison. Fields allows Reggie's uncertainties to show as she uncovers the terrible truths surrounding both mysteries. An intriguing cast of characters and a superb performance by Fields make this an enjoyable listen. S.J.H. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award (c) AudioFile 2005, Portland, Maine

Tishy's mystery thriller with a psychic twist introduces an engaging new heroine. Cast aside by her Chicago executive husband in favor of a trophy wife, Regina "Reggie" Cutter gets a new life in Boston, where she has inherited not only her Aunt Jo's South End townhouse but also her aunt's psychic abilities, which take the form of unusual pains in various parts of her body. While these pains aren't precise paranormal indicators, they're enough to get her asked by a realtor friend to check out a Back Bay mansion subject to unexplained manifestations; she's also appointed an unofficial consultant to Boston police detective Frank Devaney, whom her aunt assisted on occasion. Devaney is unsure of the guilt of a young black man who's serving a life sentence for a 13-year-old murder committed in a crack-infested building that's now an exclusive apartment house. The persistent Reggie tries everything from library research to visiting dangerous neighborhoods, baiting a charismatic preacher, hobnobbing with powerful politicians and badgering Devaney. Tishy does a good job conveying the feel of contemporary Boston, but one hopes she'll let Reggie rely more on her clairvoyant gifts than on unconvincing coincidence in future outings. Agent, Meredith Bernstein. (Feb. 24)

      FYI:
Tishy is also the author of
Jealous Heart (1997) and two other Kate Banning mysteries.
